Happy 7th birthday to us 🥳 What a wild ride it Happy 7th birthday to us 🥳

What a wild ride it's been from opening with just handful of members in July 2019, to pivoting to operating an online business as we plunged into lockdown in March 2020 through to now: a thriving community of women building each other up and supporting each other both inside and outside of the gym.

So much has changed in that 7 years. We've got loads more equipment, for starters,  a much better and more flexible booking system, tonnes more coaching education under my belt and many many more fabulous clients! Personally, I've gone from being in my late thirties to my mid-40s which has been an amazing journey on its own 😂 I've gone from being a parent of small children to a parent of young adults. I've gone from living in a caravan through a house build to living in our beautiful home on our thriving farm community. I have changed my hair A LOT! I have become more fiercely feminist as I've listened to the struggles and frustrations of women over the last 7 years from struggling to get their voices heard around menopause to battling chronic conditions that they thought would define the rest of their lives.

But importantly the essence of what we do is the same:

👊 We empower women to realise what their amazing bodies are capable of
❤️We help women to disentangle their image of themselves as entirely defined by the shape or size of their bodies and instead to celebrate and increase what their bodies can do
💪 We help women to get stronger and more confident
🔥 We help women to gain the strength and mobility that will help them to lead healthier, more independent lives into old age

We do not train for the beach. We train for old age. We eat cake and we wear the damn shorts 👊

As always, the hugest love and thanks to the hundreds of women who have placed their trust in me and my business to help them get fitter and stronger over the last 7 years😍
Nearly half of the UK's women aren't getting enoug Nearly half of the UK's women aren't getting enough exercise. Sometimes we worry that as an industry we make exercise look like it's not for everyone but these are some of the things we wish more people knew about exercising and being physically active...

Exercise doesn't have to be horrible-yes sometimes it's hard and sometimes you're not in the mood, but it can also be really fun!

It sounds crazy, but being more active and exercising more really does give you more energy. Your body gives you adrenaline and dopamine in the short term and in the longer term, physical activity triggers long term cellular changes to keep you energised.

There's something about the friendships made when you've all survived a session together that is just unrivalled.

It really is never too late to start. Research has demonstrated time and time again that significant changes to muscular strength and bone density can be made no matter your age BUT the sooner you can start the better your chances of living independently, with good mobility and crucially with confidence in your body's ability to support you well into old age.

One of the most wonderful things about our small group training model is that we can work around injuries, niggles and preferences as well as how experienced you are in the gym. Some days you might feel full of beans and be able to really go for it and on other days we may spend half an hour doing some stretching and mobility work. Our job is to help you meet your body where it's at every single time you walk through our door so that you can progress at your own pace.

Especially when you start learning new fun exercises and unlocking new levels of strength you never knew you had.

From climbing the stairs to carrying the shopping, picking up the grandkids to working in the garden. There really is no limit to the things that training in the gym can make easier.

Train for a stronger body not a thinner one. Train because you enjoy it. Stay curious about what your body is capable of. Revel in the extra things your body is able to do because of your training. These are the things that will keep you active into later life and these are the behaviours that wi

Recent headlines claimed that just 2 hours of stre Recent headlines claimed that just 2 hours of strength-based exercise a week could lower your risk of all cause mortality… we shared some amazing posts on our stories about this at the time, but it now deserves its own place on the grid because whilst this study was new its findings were not news to those of us who have been banging the resistance training drum for a while

Building muscle is so important and there are so many reasons why but I'll stick to the highlights:

💪Muscle keeps you strong, mobile and independent as you age

💪Building muscle strengthens your bones and can help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and reverse the effects of it if you already have it

💪It helps your metabolism

💪It improves your balance

💪It reduces the risk of falls

💪It improves cognitive function and the list goes on

In fact some recent studies suggest it can reduce the risk of early death by up to a third 🤯

AND YET The Journal of Exercise Science found that for every one woman in the free weight section of a gym, there are 27 men getting all these incredible life enhancing benefits

And that in a nutshell is why Studio 37 exists- to spread the benefits and joys of exercise to as many women as we can possibly squeeze into our small studio 💛
