When I first came up with the idea of Studio 37 it was always about more than health and fitness. Increasingly it has become important to me that wherever possible I am also giving back in a wider sense whether that’s through donations to charity or by using products and companies who themselves have a strong ethical background. It’s why all the skincare products we use come from Ubiety, a luxury vegan skincare brand developed by the charity Dorothy House. All their proceeds go directly to providing vital end of life care. The coffee we use comes from Girls Who Grind Coffee a female duo of coffee grinders who support female coffee growers and farmers which obviously resonated with me.
So when I saw a post from This Mum Runs quoting research from Sport England that 6 million mums in the UK want to exercise more but lack confidence, time or childcare, I got thinking about what more I could do.
I have tried to remove as many of the barriers as possible to training here at Studio 37: children are welcome, we have plenty of parking right outside, classes run at times of the day that don’t interfere too much with school and nursery drop off or work and I have tried to keep my prices as low as possible whilst still fairly representing the service that I offer BUT, and it is a big but, there is always more that we can do.
As a result I am now launching The Wonder Women Project to offer two women the chance to train with us for free for 6 months. The barriers that prevent women from training are many and varied and every single one of those reasons is important. However, rather than focusing on the negatives that are preventing women from training I want this award to celebrate the positive. I am asking entrants to tell us about the positive impact they think joining Studio 37 will have on their lives. You may feel like you have lost yourself in parenthood and want to do something purely for you, or you might be looking to completely turn your life around and want health and fitness to be a central part of that mission or you might simply want to be able to run for the bus and carry your shopping without feeling out of breath. Whatever positives you think health and fitness can bring into your life we want to hear from you. It is really important to me that this award goes to women who are going to get as much as possible from this experience so to help me award this membership I am in the process of compiling a panel of judges to work with me to shortlist and award the free gym places. So far the panel of judges includes Molly Gunn, owner and founder of Selfish Mother and Lucy Anderson of Wild Gym in Bath. Once shortlisted the finalists will be invited in for an informal chat with the judging panel so that we can get to know you a bit and get a feel for how we might be able to help you.
To be in with a chance of joining The Wonder Women Project all you need to do is complete the form below by 31 October 2019. Full terms and conditions apply.
